North Myrtle Beach is located to the north of the city of Myrtle Beach, which are both part of the 60-mile stretch of coastline known as the Grand Strand, one of the top vacation destinations in the southeast United States.

Decades of rapid growth which added large resorts and high-rise hotels, attractions, entertainment complexes, golf courses, and shopping centers keep families and tourists streaming to this resort area for their vacations each year.

Pictured above right is the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway as it traverses through our area.

The waterway, prior to annexation of land into North Myrtle Beach's city limits, separated North Myrtle Beach, Horry County and Little River.

North Myrtle Beach is comprised of 4 distinct sections that are commonly mentioned by locals and visitors alike when referring to where something is located.

These sections came together in 1968 to form the present municipality known as the City of North Myrtle Beach.

From north to south, the sections of North Myrtle Beach are Cherry Grove Beach, Ocean Drive Section, Crescent Beach Section, and Windy Hill.

The northern Grand Strand, especially North Myrtle Beach, is generally considered a bit quieter and more family-oriented than other areas to the south.
